a cut and paste from my email will have to suffice for now.
namaste, everyone!
we're a little less than 4 weeks out from our trip! eek!
i wanted to give you all the run-down on life, and life as it relates to india. consider this an e-version of the kingsley post!
so, rundown:
tomorrow: leave for a whirlwind trip to michigan for the carpenter-watson wedding. 17 hours one way, but the watsons are so worth it! woo-hoo! and also, the gordon team leaves for india tomorrow night. they'd like prayers that their luggage makes it (especially with the confusing new bangalore airport which is very fancy and very confusing), that their team will stay healthy (particularly hannah, one of the trip advisors, who is 6 months pregnant with the mcclelland's first!) and safe, and that the team will be open to challenges and growth and really see God at work among our brothers and sisters in india.
next weekend: christine, one of my dear roommates, is gettin' hitched! thankfully she's getting married in colorado springs, which means it's only an hour away instead of 17. :) she and timmy tie the knot on friday evening- woot! then, saturday, shmem, lauren and i move into 239 grant street. that's right, i'm moving again. this time, though, it's for GOOD! so, consider this address effective until 30 june 2009:
kandyce kingsley
239 grant st.
denver CO 80203
i promise i won't move anymore after next weekend, when the three of us move into a cute little brick bungalow in one of denver's most fun little neighborhoods- washington park! (um, the slightly cheaper west wash park.) i'm looking forward to living with shmem and lauren, for way more reasons than learning how to cook. :)
two weeks from now: baby shower for lindsey and marky meyers and their baby, due in october. HORRAY for the meyers'!
three weeks from now, june 17: i fly to chi-town to catch up with my dear friend eric who i haven't seen in almost two whole years. i'll be staying with eric on the 17th evening before ::drumroll:
june 18: heading to INDIA! mom and i fly from chicago to newark, where we meet up with my dear friend jon pinckney. from there, the three of us fly to bangalore, just in time for james sundararajan's wedding. from bangalore, we'll go to chennai to meet new friends and connect with old ones. then, it's on to paul uncle's farm and a few days with the gordon college team, the OM hyderabad base for a weekend with our DFN interns, debbie 'i'm an 80's glam girl' bailey and a trip to pipe village and surrounding villages to check on the status of the pipe village toilet project (check out the link- i promise you won't be sad!). and also, to pick up jon crawford who will be traveling with us for the rest of our trip! from there it's to bapatla to hug some sweet little orphan kids i haven't seen in two years but whom i love all the more (even if they do call me auntie and not sister and in so doing make me feel really old)! then, it's a few days in varanasi for some craziness on the ganges, to delhi for some delhi belly (erg... i mean, sight-seeing) and then agra for the taj mahal!
we'll be back in the states july 23. i started a blog for the trip, so you can check that at your convenience instead of being spammed every few days. the blog link is this: http://kk-incredibleindia.blogspot.com/ kind of lame right now, i know, but it will be getting a facelift soon. and you can comment on it as long as you have a gmail address (which most of you do, methinks.) and then, no pressure to email back! of course, you can if you want, but no pressure this way. :)
so anyway, there you have it. my life until july 23! a few things you could all pray about:
- trip finances. we have lots of bills we have to pay, both at home and in india, and not lots of money. but God is faithful, right?
- health and safety! obviously we are traveling a lot in a short amount of time... exciting, but also exhausting. pray we can stay invested in our trip, in each other and in what's going on around us.
- for all these friends, brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles of ours doing such amazing work in india. and also for the work they're doing (particularly for our fundraising for the kids who live at the farm and orphanage, for the pipe village project and for the battered women's shelter our dear shiamala auntie is planning to build.)
- that for once in my life as it relates to india, i won't get a GI- something- nasty that makes me wish i were dead.
- that shmem, lauren and i will have time to unpack our lives quickly, as we'll be hosting the horray for the meyers party and possibly a dear long-lost-now-found friend from france.
i think that's it for now. email or call me before the 18th, or even send a piece of snail mail if the spirit moves you. :) otherwise, check the blog at your leisure!
love, love
-kandyce
